November 2017 Ballot referendums Information

The following resources were compiled by the League of Women Voters of Lackawanna County in order to enable voters to make an informed decision regarding two referendums. This information does not constitute an opinion. Please check back prior to the election to see if additional resources have been added to this page.

Lackawanna County Property Tax Reassessment Resources

On November 7th, voters will be asked to vote Yes or No to the following referendum:

Shall the Lackawanna County Commissioners incur debt not to exceed $12 million (Twelve Million) Dollars solely for the purpose of conducting a countywide revision of assessment so that all real estate within the county will be assessed at a predetermined ratio of 100% of a new base-year value?

Proposed Amendment to the Constitution of PA

On November 7, 2017, voters will be asked to vote Yes or No to the following ballot question. The public notice, below, provides background information and a plain-English statement.


Shall the Pennsylvania Constitution be amended to permit the General Assembly to enact legislation authorizing local taxing authorities to exclude from taxation up to 100 percent of the assessed value of each homestead property within a local taxing jurisdiction, rather than limit the exclusion to one-half of the median assessed value of all homestead property, which is the existing law?
